Environmental management
Our commitment to the environment is reflected in everything we do –
every day.
Scania's environmental commitment is to minimise the effects on the
environment. This is done in various ways; it is the many small steps
that carry our environmental commitment forward.
Carbon dioxide and energy efficiency, emission standards, policies,
recycling, end-of-life treatment are all part of Scania’s commitment to
the environment. To see a product from a life-cycle perspective is just
part of our focus on economising resources and energy, gaining low fuel
consumption and low emissions. In order to structure our environmental
work, we are certified according to the ISO 14001 standard. The Scania
environmental policy applies to all activities.
Environmental performance
To ensure continuous monitoring and reporting of environmental
performance in the production network, Scania has established an
internal reporting system that encompasses all production units, as well
as research facilities. Indicators and key figures are reported
quarterly at management meetings in the line organisation and annually
to Scania's Executive Board.
Environmental permits
Operations at Scania's production plants around the world have permits
that comply with national legislation. The environmental impact from
these facilities consists mainly of emissions to air, discharges to
water, waste products and noise. In addition to legislation and the
conditions included in the permits, there are also internal requirements
and rules within each operation that have to be followed.
Environmental risk management
Scania's risk management focuses on preventive actions so as to protect
employees and the company's overriding values. Scania has a Group-wide
procedure for integrating issues related to the risk of environmental
damage with other risk management work. Every unit has an emergency plan
for managing environmental disruptions.
