Central District Field Days done and dusted for another year

Posted on: Friday, 31 March 2017

March 14 – 16 were important dates in the farming calendar for the Manawatu and surrounding regions.  Now in its 23rd year, the Central District Field Days is a recognised regional agricultural event, exposing farmers to the latest trends and developments in rural innovation, agribusiness and agritech.  Hosted at Manfield Park, Feilding, CablePrice were amongst the 600 who exhibited at this year’s 3 day event, which attracted crowds in excess of 30,000.

A major event highlight included the grand finale of the 2017 National Excavator Operator Competition.  This competition, which is run by The Civil Contractors Federation, started back in June 2016 at Mystery Creek’s National Fieldays.  The final saw the 10 winners of regional competitions, as well as the 2016 champion go head to head to impress the judges, not only with highly advanced excavator operation techniques, but also with their knowledge of health and safety precautions and planning.

A huge congratulations to Steve Galbraith (who managed to defend his title and win for a second year running!), Sam Scott and Brandon Crowley for taking out the prizes.  As a major sponsor of this event, CablePrice supplied two ZX130-B excavators for all the tricky tasks the operators had to perform as well as two ZX55u excavators for the ‘One Day Job’ part of the competition.

The event also marked the retirement of crowd favourite Gerald the Giraffe, who has become a regular fixture at industry events.  After two years of loyal service and having raised thousands of dollars for charity, Gerald is off to greener pastures!  Cheers mate for all your hard work, you will be missed.
