CablePrice delivers first McCloskey to Whangarei

Within half-an-hour of arriving on site at Aaran Pascoe Contractors’ quarry just outside Whangarei, the first brand new McCloskey I34R recirculating Impact Crusher sold under CablePrice’s new agency with the brand, was hard at work.


“We did our initial training on the crusher at CablePrice’s Whangarei yard, the transporter picked it up that afternoon, and it was out in the quarry and putting metal through almost straight after it was unloaded. It’s a great machine, which is performing exactly as I thought it would, plus a bit more. For a mobile machine under 30t it has a really favourable weight to production ratio, and pumps the metal through,” says Aaran Pascoe.


After hearing a ‘whisper’ that CablePrice might be taking on the McCloskey International agency, Aaran said he was keen to consider being one of their first New Zealand customers for the brand. 


“I had taken delivery of a jaw crusher and screening plant from another supplier during the previous 18 months but was still looking for a new impact crusher. I put the decision on pause until I knew what was happening with CablePrice.”


After doing his homework, and talking to the CablePrice team about their intentions with the McCloskey agency, Aaran says the decision was a no-brainer. 


“I decided to go with them as I already had a great relationship with their sales team and service guys at the Whangarei branch with our other gear. They are talented people, who come from all parts of the industry and I knew they had experience servicing crushing and screening plants.” 


Aaran has been in the operator’s seat himself since purchasing the new I34R crusher, and it has impressed him on several fronts, including its versatility. The model has a full screening and recirculating system, allowing crushed and screened final product to be produced from one machine. A radial return conveyor recirculates oversize material from the screenbox back to the feed hopper, and can even feed another machine or stockpile.


“It is a very good, smart piece of gear, which hasn’t been over-complicated. This is definitely a positive I’ve noticed with the McCloskey equipment – that in 10 years time when other brands might be having technical issues, we expect this crusher to just keep running.”


The mobility of the compact, nimble, 27,500 tonne crusher, which is less than 2.5m wide, is another big plus, he says.


“The crusher is simple to transport from site to site and can operate in smaller spaces with ease.”


While McCloskey Interational may be a new member to the CablePrice family, the brand has been a pioneer and leader in the screening and crushing industry since the firm’s humble beginning in Canada back in 1986. Today it offers a complete range of screeners, crushers, conveyors and washing systems, producing in excess of 1300 units globally each year.

“McCloskey products are produced and field-tested to perform across a number of industries, including quarrying, mining, construction and demolition recycling, waste management and recycling, composting, biomass and landscaping. Any industry that requires an end product to be crushed, screened or stockpiled can benefit from McCloskey equipment.”


Aaran Pascoe agrees that McCloskey International is a welcome addition to the CablePrice offering.


“To be able to get the whole package from one company is a big plus for us and I’m sure others in the industry will also benefit from the strong partnership between CablePrice and McCloskey, as they join forces to become serious players in the market.”


Aaron says the experience of looking outside the ‘CablePrice circle’ at other impact crushers and companies during his 18 months of research, reconfirmed what a ‘great run’ his business has had with CablePrice, after buying his first 12 tonne digger from the firm around 20 years ago, when he was a 21-year-old starting out in the industry. 


“Since then I have purchased various Hitachi excavators and wheel loaders, John Deere bulldozers, Isuzu and Scania trucks, and a Montabert rock breaker from CablePrice. There are never any surprises or dramas dealing with the company, and It’s great to be able to work with guys we know and trust. The purchase of the crusher was another easy process and yet again we’ve had great after-sales support from the Whangarei branch.”
