Montabert continues to lead

As the old saying goes, what goes up, must come down. With the current infrastructure and construction boom, the building process often begins with demolition. Regarded as best in their class for demolition and breaking equipment, Montabert has always led the way, starting with the invention of the world’s first hydraulic paving breaker in 1921.

These days Montabert has attachments for a wide range of uses including site preparation and land reclamation, rock quarrying and mining, low-grade demolition such as concrete and paving, and multi-story building demolition.

CablePrice has been the New Zealand distributor of Montabert breakers since the 1990’s, with one of their largest Montabert customers being Vuksich and Borich (NZ) Ltd.  The Auckland based civil engineering company boasts a huge range of Montabert breakers which Plant and Transport Manager Murray George says, are primarily used for bulk excavation work such as breaking up rock and hard material.

The Montabert range had good specifications such as air kits for underwater work and silencing kits for confined spaces, enabling the company to undertake a variety of projects, Murray says. “Just about every project we’re involved with uses Montabert breakers.”

“With the Port Moresby project, we used the big Montabert V55 breakers with our 50 tonne excavators. Montabert are very good breakers and we’ll continue with the brand,” says Murray George.

Local Vuksich and Borich projects include preparing ground for the new SkyCity convention centre, the Fabric apartment complex in Onehunga, the Commercial Bay development and several Ministry of Justice projects such as site preparation at Mt Eden and Paremoremo prisons and the Auckland South Corrections Facility in Wiri.

Offshore projects include excavating shipping channel in the remote islands of Tavalu, creating new islands and resorts off Fiji through land reclamation, and excavating a site in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea for a new conference facility.

Murray Wilkinson, Equipment Parts Manager at CablePrice, says the Montabert product range starts with the SC6, ideally suited for those small jobs with a carrier range weight of 0.7t – 1.2t, right up to the heavy duty V65 breaker, with a carrier range weight of 45t – 90t, for the really big jobs.  “Montabert breakers come standard as Metro Silenced, providing low noise emissions ideal for contractors working in metropolitan areas and the great shock absorbers on these breakers mean it is a much more pleasant experience for the operator as well”.

The all-purpose, versatile ‘Silver Clip’ (SC) range of light breakers is very popular with customers working on the smaller jobs such as a plumber and gas fitter who needs to break concrete to get access to underground pipes. They want a tool they can use with their mini-excavator to get the job done fast and accurately.  “In particular our Hitachi Mini excavator customers favour the SC12 with its 1.2t – 2.2t operating weight as it’s a perfect match with the Hitachi ZX17U-5”, explains Murray.

At the other end of the scale, the “V” model excels in hard rock quarries by providing the right amount of energy and frequency variation to perform no matter what ground hardness.  Montabert’s heavy “V” model breakers are designed for all types of carriers, from 18t to 90t.  It isn’t easy to find a carrier on which Montabert heavy breakers cannot be mounted.

“Montabert products are renowned for their reliability, high production value and low operating costs.  They are the Rolls Royce of breakers. You can’t get anything better on the market globally.”

Last stop for the year on the CCNZ CablePrice Excavator Operator Competition is the Northland region! Head on down to the Whangarei A & P Showgrounds where multi-skilled operators will be taking on the challenge of competition – don’t miss out on the action!
CablePrice are always pleased to receive positive feedback from our customers but one in particular has gone above and beyond with showing their thanks! Meet CablePrice and Contract Consultants customer, Mark Tosi from ZPRCivil.

ZPRCivil recently needed four Bell machines requiring their first 100 hour services to be completed all in one day – a large task for the Auckland service team. The weather was also less than ideal and the shed they had to work in was unpowered, but the team did an outstanding job.

Mark thought the same and put together this awesome ‘thank you’ video here: https://okt.to/sED7vJ
