J40v2 Highly Portable Jaw Crusher

June 2023
McCloskey J40v2

When R J Stewart (trading as Heavy Trax Hire) decided to add a new crusher to its Cromwell hire fleet, manager, Hartley Johnston, says the track-mounted McCloskey International J40V2 ticked all the boxes. “This well-built 36.5 tonne crusher has delivered excellent productivity for us so far across a range of jobs. The machine is highly portable, and is easy to set up and operate, which is critical for a hire machine.”

Before the company purchased the heavy-duty J40V2, Hartley talked to a couple of other owners of McCloskey crushers and screening plants, who gave the brand the thumbs up, he says. “They were also pleased with the back up and support they receive from CablePrice Ltd for their McCloskey machines.”

“This well-built 36.5 tonne crusher has delivered”

Heavy Trax Hire has a vast number of machines available for dry hire out of Cromwell, Mosgiel and Invercargill, along with a large hire branch in Auckland. The firm covers the lower South Island and has sent machines as far north as Christchurch. They are one of few firms in the South Island to offer short and long-term hire for larger machines such as crushers and screening plants. With an existing large crusher completing close to 11,000 hours, they decided it was time to add the new machine to its fleet.

The company transports the McCloskey J40V2 crusher to each client’s site themselves, which enables them to set up equipment before doing a handover. “At 2.5 metres wide and 14 metres long the crusher is highly portable and easy to get to the job site. The user-friendly control panel makes it very simple for our clients to operate. So far, the crusher has been hired for four different applications, crushing coal, quarry rock, lime, and river gravel. Our clients have been very happy with its productivity and versatility.”

Although it hasn’t been tried out on one of Heavy Trax Hire’s job sites yet, Hartley says the reversible jaw motion for clearing blockages will also be useful for crushing concrete and demolition materials.

The J40V2’s heavy-duty cheek plate design, and 1015mm x 600m deep jaw box with fast jaw speed, and 900mm main conveyor, play a key role in the high productivity it achieves. Other features include a fully hydraulic drive grizzly feeder, high-capacity hydraulic folding hopper, level and load sensors to ensure the most efficient material handling across applications, and an open chassis design for ease of maintenance.

The crusher has a powerful, yet fuel efficient, 225 HP Cat 7.1 engine, with a unique fuel saving mode. None of Heavy Trax Hire’s clients have tested out the fuel saving mode yet, but even on standard mode, the J40V2’s fuel efficiency is impressive, says Hartley. “The average fuel burn is 20-22 litres an hour, which for a 36-tonne machine is great.”

The J40V2 crusher is part of the full range of market leading McCloskey International crushing and screening machines available from CablePrice. With their proven durability, quality, high-capacity production and mobility, McCloskey machines are well-suited to the New Zealand quarrying and mining sector, which Hartley agrees whole heartedly with. “Although it is early days, we are very happy with the McCloskey International J40V2 crusher. It is a versatile, portable machine, that is well suited to our hire clients in the quarrying and mining sectors, with their wide-ranging needs.”

Hartley says Heavy Trax Hire values the long-standing relationship it has with CablePrice, and is pleased to have extended this to the McCloskey International brand. “Once again, the purchase process and back up and support from CablePrice has been great, especially at the initial handover of the machine. It’s good to see that McCloskey International, one of the top brands of crushing and screening equipment in the world, is available from CablePrice and is being embraced more widely in New Zealand.”
